PHOTO ESSAY : THE CAREER OF A BUSY FARMER(PLANTING – HARVESTING)

Philippines is one of the richest country when it comes to agriculture.
Agriculture is important because it is the Filipinos’ main employment and everyone are engaged in it, even children. Most of Filipinos should be wealthy with the use of our agriculture.

Good quality seed can increase yields by 5-20%.Choosing seed of a suitable variety of rice that suits the environment it will be grown in and ensuring the seed choosen of that variety is of the highest possible quality is the essential first step in rice production.

“LAND PREPARATION”
The farmer is using hand tractor to ensure that the rice field is ready for planting.Land preparation involves plowing and harrowing to ‘till’ or dig-up, mix and level the soil

The two main practices of establishing rice plants are transplanting and direct seeding.Farmers have two options;Seedlings may be transplanted by either machine or hand.

To ensure sufficient water, most rice farmers aim to maintain flooded conditions in their field. They use irrigation or water pump.

Rice farmers using fertilizer to improves plant growth and nutrient uptake and limits nutrient losses.

Generally, the ideal harvest time lies between 130 and 136 days after sowing for late, 113 and 125 for medium, and 110 days for early-maturing varieties.

For dry season harvesting, rice Farmers have an optimum time is 28 to 35 days after heading.

Harvesting can be done manually or mechanically. Nowadays our farmers choose the mechanical harvesting to fast the work done, and it allowed farmers to quickly clear tracts, break up the soil, remove the grass and prepare the ground for cultivation

Farmers are considered as a living”HERO”.They work hard for the family and they are the ones who provides food for the country.
